Mahila Samakhya Karnataka is a programme of the Department of Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India. The programme was born out of the emphasis given in the New Education Policy of 1986 to the need for education programmes to play a ‘positive, interventionist role’ in bringing about women’s equality. The programme is implemented through Mahila Samakhya Karnataka, a registered society started in 1989.
